Former high school and college lacrosse star Will Yeatman led a lacrosse clinic July 14-15 at Fallbrook High School organized by Fallbrook Lacrosse Booster Club president Kelli Jenkin.
The clinic drew 17 participants between the ages of 12 and 18.
“We’re very pleased that we had that many come out,” Jenkin said.
Jenkin’s oldest son, Erik, played lacrosse for Fallbrook High School before graduating in June; he will start his college courses at Mira Costa College and has not yet finalized any plans to play collegiate lacrosse. Jenkin also has 16-year-old twins, Austin and Evan, who will be juniors when Fallbrook High School resumes classes. All three of the Jenkin children took private lessons from Yeatman, and Jenkin and her husband sought to have Yeatman come to Fallbrook for a lacrosse clinic.
Yeatman was a two-sport star at Rancho Bernardo High School, playing football as well as lacrosse. He started college at Notre Dame and played both sports, and after transferring to the University of Maryland he continued to play both football and lacrosse.
Both sports have professional leagues, and although Yeatman was not selected in April’s National Football League draft he had been in discussion with the New England Patriots. As an undrafted free agent, his status was impacted by the NFL’s lockout and his schedule was uncertain.
“As soon as he had his schedule, he contacted us,” Jenkin said.
Yeatman, who has since signed with the Patriots, was able to conduct the clinic on three days notice while Jenkin was able to obtain 17 participants on that short notice. Yeatman was the clinic’s only instructor.
“Hopefully he’ll be back in the spring for another clinic,”
Jenkin said.
