FALLBROOK – For anyone who has an itch for bingo, the Fallbrook Senior Citizens Center is the place to go.
The nonprofit organization, which has offered afternoon, members-only bingo games on a once-a-month basis, is now sponsoring larger, evening games that provide much bigger prizes and are open to anyone age 18 or older. The games are being held twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays. They are seen as a way for the club to raise additional operating funds while increasing recreational opportunities for area residents.
“After a lot of work and planning, we are ready to go,” said Virginia Cooke, the club’s executive director.
The community bingo game was launched in a low-key manner on Aug. 17 with scant advance publicity and just a few fliers distributed here and there. Yet the games attracted about 50 players, some who traveled from as far away as Temecula and Vista to participate.
“We were pleased by the turnout and the interest shown,” Cooke said. “People seem to be excited about it.”
The next games will be held Sept. 14 followed by another round on Sept. 28. She said club leaders hope that attendance will steadily grow.
Each player pays $12 for a packet of game cards. Additional cards are sold for $1 each. Doors open at the center at 5 p.m., and the games take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Complimentary coffee, tea and desserts are provided. Sodas, bottled water, hot dogs, pizza slices and salads are available for purchase.
The center is located at 399 Heald Lane. More information about the center and the Bingo nights is available by calling (760) 728-4498.
