Sheriff's deputies arrest avocado thief

An individual believed to have stolen approximately 1,000 pounds of avocados was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 23, after a Sheriff’s deputy recognized him from a wanted poster in Fallbrook.

According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Montion, approximately 1,000 pounds of avocados were stolen from a grove in the area of Camino Del Rey and Luis Rey Heights Road in Bonsall.

“The value of the stolen avocados was estimated at about $1,500 but is probably more if [the theft] had been in a store. The crime was captured on surveillance cameras and a suspect was later identified from the footage,” said Montion.
