Local artist donates sculpture with a message to students

FALLBROOK “ Jim Helms, a local artist, has donated a sculpture titled œTexting until the End to the Fallbrook Union High School District. The sculpture is on display in the Fallbrook High School library. According to Helms, œ'Texting until the End' is a commentary about everyday life. We use various devices that can be distracting and lead us into horrific consequences. This sculpture is made from car parts. It is meant to draw attention to the dangers of driving and texting at the same time. I'm hoping that viewing this art piece may diminish this activity.

The artist contacted Superintendent Dale Mitchell to see if the school or district was interested in temporarily displaying this sculpture. After working through some logistics, the sculpture was mounted in the library. Numerous students and staff have expressed positive comments about the art work and the artist's generosity.

Jim Helms has been sculpting for 11 years. He started out doing representational art, with most of his work completed in cast bronze. His background and training include workshops in Fallbrook, Scottsdale, Ariz. and Loveland, Colo.
