Dense fog believed to be cause of fatal rollover

SAN DIEGO - The California Highway Patrol today investigated a fatal rollover crash in the North County believed to have been caused by dense fog.

The fatality on Maridge Road, just south of Highway 76, occurred about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to CHP Public Information Officer Jim Bettencourt.

A 65-year-old man driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma southbound at between 10 and 15 miles per hour with his 61-year-old wife in the passenger seat lost control under what he described as ''extremely foggy'' conditions, Bettencourt said.

''The right side of the Tacoma caught the dirt portion of the roadway...
