Carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere increased from 280 parts per million in preindustrial times to 382 in 2006, a 36 percent increase. The current rate of increase in concentration is about 1.9 ppmv/year. CO2 concentrations are higher than anytime in 650,000 years.

Nitrous Oxide (N2O) has increased approximately 18 percent in the past 200 years and continues to increase. About 11,500 years before the industrial period, N2O varied slightly. It increased rapidly toward the end of the 20th century.
