On Monday, October 10, the Fallbrook girls’ field hockey team hosted the Rancho Bernardo Broncos. The Warriors were coming off a weekend of championship glory after toppling field hockey giants, Serra and Scripps Ranch, at the annual Serra Tournament. Fallbrook continued its successful run with a dominating performance against the Broncos, 6-0.
In the first half, the Warriors managed to score three times within the first fifteen minutes of the period. Brianna Rothert, Molly Throop, and Jamie Garcia scored in quick succession.
The second half was no different as Fallbrook demonstrated its relentless scoring ability along with its stingy defense. Throop scored her second goal within the first ten minutes of the period, and Sydney Richelieu notched the Warriors fifth goal four minutes later. Lizzy Hutzler provided the final score and handed Rancho Bernardo a 6-0 loss.
After the game, captain Sydney Richelieu said, “I thought we’d be a little more relaxed after the Serra Tournament, but we came out stronger than I had expected.”
Fallbrook head coach Kirsten Mueller added, “The girls played their usual game and they played well.”
Later in the week, the Fallbrook Warriors won two additional games against Escondido and Mission Hills. In the six games since the beginning of the Serra Tournament, Fallbrook has managed to outscore its opponents 25-1. The impressive leadership provided by the three captains, Jamie Garcia, Jackie Eskue, and Sydney Richelieu, has much to do with the success the team has found thus far into the season. In addition, Mueller has done an excellent job replacing longtime coach Kathy Waite, who retired after last season.
The Warriors will look forward to continuing its dominating performances as they finish the remaining league games. With talent abound at every position, Fallbrook hopes to provide a strong showing during CIF playoffs.
