The Fallbrook High Warriors have been in high spirits this week as the school approaches its annual Homecoming celebration Friday evening, October 28, at the football game.
Students have been involved in a variety of high-spirited activities since Monday that have included theme dress-up days including Tourist Day, ‘Tis the Season Day, R & R Day, culminating with Red & White Day on Friday. Lunchtime competitions have included fun-filled things like relay races, pumpkin finding, tug-o-wars, and more.
Seniors elected to this year’s Homecoming Court include Maggie Harriman, Anne Rubio, Kayla Southard, Gregoria Rojas, Fernando Avelar, Tyler Hirota, Manny Sauls and Nathan Sneller. While this year’s royalty will be found in finery at the official celebration, they were encouraged to show their grit and determination during the week on campus by competing against each other in a donut eating contest, water balloon toss, animal game, lip sync contest, and impersonation competition.
As the activities swung into high gear, Associated Student Body Director Mike Lilly said this year’s theme is one that is significant to a lifetime of memories.
“Our theme this year is ‘Capture the Moment,’” said Lilly.
Students have been working to prepare the traditional, colorful Homecoming floats for the big evening, which will be paraded during halftime of the Warriors game against Escondido. This year, each of the four classes will have its own float, compared to combined floats in recent years.
“The sophomores and seniors have been building their floats at private houses as students have done in the past, but the juniors and freshmen are building theirs on the Fallbrook High campus,” said Lilly. “Progress is being made and we are looking forward to great floats!”
Homecoming evening will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday with the junior varsity football game, followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m. Fallbrook High agriculture department students will be offering a barbecued tri-tip dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. next to the football stadium.
During halftime of the varsity game, float awards will be announced and members of the Homecoming court will be introduced to the crowd. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at that time, while the Homecoming King will be announced at the annual dance which will take place on Saturday evening from 8 to 11 p.m.
