Retired teachers week is Nov. 6-12

The California Retired Teachers Association takes this time to honor those educators who have given so much. Teachers often reach into their own pockets for materials and programs that budgets do not cover. Teachers are not eligible for Social Security so their pension is their only guaranteed income in retirement. Just as private sector retirees rely on Social Security, retired teachers rely on CalSTRS.

The average teacher works more hours in nine months than the average 40-hour employee does in a year.
