Fallbrook High School’s boys’ cross-country team placed fifth as a team in the Southern California Invitational meet Oct. 15 at Guajome Park.
“The kids ran well. I was pleased,” said Fallbrook coach Marco Arias. “I think this was probably one of our better races of the year so far.”
The Southern California Invitational matches each school’s ranked runners against other runners of the same rank. Fallbrook senior Enrique Rivera finished second both in the #1 race and overall while Fallbrook junior Connor Froboese was second in the #2 race and had the 10th-fastest overall time of the day.
“Those two young men turned in some very fine performances,” Arias said.
Rivera had a time of 16:02 on the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course. Christian Freeman of Carlsbad won that race with a time of 15:59.
“It was a real fine performance for Enrique,” Arias said.
Froboese posted a time of 16:36.
Fallbrook’s #3 runner, junior Israel Michel, was recovering from a cold and settled for a time of 17:56. The Warriors’ #4 competitor was senior Eric Ingerson, who completed the course in 17:58.
“That was actually a very good time for him,” Arias said of Ingerson. “He’s been racing pretty well lately.”
Although senior Caleb Ashbrook was Fallbrook’s #5 runner and freshman Elijah Roque ran in the #6 race, Roque had the faster time. Roque’s performance of 18:07 placed him sixth among the #6 runners and 41st overall.
“It was quite an accomplishment on that course,” Arias said of Roque’s time.
Ashbrook crossed the finish line 18:30 after the starter’s gun was fired. Ian Winterstrom was the fifth #7 runner to complete the course, doing so in 18:57.
“They continue to improve,” Arias said of his team.
The junior varsity race was run on the same 5,000-meter course. Fallbrook’s first finisher in that race was Joe Calescibetta, whose time of 19:12 placed 18th overall among the junior varsity runners.
