Decision to Assess Fees on Solar Power Companies Postponed

RIVERSIDE - With negotiations continuing, Riverside County supervisors today postponed voting on whether to enact a policy that would require solar power companies with projects in the works countywide to pay for the use of local land, roads and services.

The county is proposing a 2 percent franchise or development fee, which would apply to gross receipts ''arising from the use, operation or possession'' of a project, according to county documents. County officials estimate the charge would bring in $30 million to $38 million annually.
