Most of the county’s new ordinance on the keeping of roosters took effect October 13, although it will be reviewed in a year to determine any deficiencies.
The first reading and introduction of the ordinance took place August 2 while the second reading and adoption was approved by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on September 13. Both approvals were by 4-1 votes with Supervisor Bill Horn in opposition. The limit on the number of roosters will take effect January 1.
“It will make it much more difficult, I hope impossible, for cockfighters to continue,” said Supervisor Dianne Jacob.
