William Abraham “Bill” Morgan, after a full and active life, passed away suddenly on October 27, 2011 at the age of 93. A resident of Fallbrook for 24 years, Bill was born June 10, 1918, in Snyder, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Depression and served aboard the battleship USS IDAHO (BB-42). He was later selected to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where he was commissioned Ensign, USN in December 1941 (six months early, due to the attack at Pearl Harbor). After serving on active duty throughout World War II, the Korean conflict, and during the Cold War, he retired from the Navy in 1962.
Bill then embarked on graduate study at the University of Southern California, eventually obtaining his Doctorate. Meanwhile, he taught in Los Angeles area high schools and junior colleges until his second retirement in 1980, when he moved to Fallbrook. While in Fallbrook he grew avocados and was active in community affairs, including as president of Kiwanis, serving on the public utility district board of directors, as president of the Garden Club, the Music Society, and on the vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Mary Lee (Koniakowsky) Morgan, his wife of over 60 years, preceded him in death, as did his second wife, Miriam “Mimi” Morgan, formerly of Bonsall. He is survived by his two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
