Lake Elsinore Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Liaison with Student

LAKE ELSINORE - A substitute teacher at a Lake Elsinore Unified high school was placed on unpaid administrative leave today following his arrest on suspicion of unlawful intercourse with a female student.

Faysal Jihid Hill, 34, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, where he posted a $5,000 bond and was released two hours later.

Hill has worked as a substitute teacher in the district for the last three years, but has filled in exclusively at Temescal Canyon High School since 2009, according to Lake Elsinore Unified School District spokesman Mark Dennis. Hill was placed on leave immediately after district officials learned of his arrest. Dennis said.

'We're working with authorities as far as their investigative needs go,'' Dennis said.

Hill allegedly had a sexual relationship with the girl during the summer, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Chavez. Investigators were informed about the alleged activity recently, Chavez said.

In addition to periodic teaching, Hill was a "walk-on'' coach for the boys' freshman basketball team, assisting with practice sessions and during games as needed.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound suspect was taken into custody without incident at his home in the 22800 block of Canyon Lake Drive in Canyon Lake around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
