Sheriff’s deputies from the Fallbrook substation had to forcibly enter a Rainbow home the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 17 to arrest a local mother of three on warrants for narcotics and burglary.
Lynn Abood, 40, of Rainbow was hiding inside the bedroom of a house with her three children – ages 12, 6, and 5 when deputies used a battering ram to enter the front door of the residence after their calls for response were unanswered.
The deputies were knocking on the door and could hear people moving around inside to another area,” explained Lt. Robert Haley, commander of the Fallbrook substation. “When she refused to open the door, deputies used a battering ram to enter the premises,”
Haley said, adding that the deputies were concerned about the fact that the woman had children with her.
“The children were obviously traumatized,” said Haley.
Haley said Abood is a “Fourth waiver,” meaning prior law enforcement actions have meant her Fourth Amendment rights under the Constitution are negated and she must allow a search at any time.
The warrants the deputies were serving were issued by Riverside County, which meant Abood was taken to the Vista Jail but would be transferred a different facility in the Riverside system.
Child Protective Services were notified of the situation and will do an assessment, Haley said.
“In the meanwhile, the children’s grandmother came and took them into her care,” said Haley.
The arrest was accomplished smoothly under the circumstances, said Haley.
“The deputies did a good job; made a good plan; and made it as safe as possible to minimize any danger to the children,” he said. “There are just times when you have to go in and get somebody."
