Future med student thanks local doctors

Last month, I was lucky enough to attend the National Youth Forum on Medicine. From Tuesday, Nov. 15, to Sunday, Nov. 21, I participated in group discussions covering topics from medical ethics to how to suture a banana. I also listened to medical students, residents and specialists speak on a variety of topics, and visited OneLegacy Organ Donation Center where I learned about the awesome gift of organ donation.

My favorite moment came when I watched a total knee replacement through telesurgery. It was incredible to see the surgical process up close, especially the saw and prosthetic! The knowledge I gained at the Forum reduced much of the fear I had concerning college and medical school.

However, the Forum also caused me to question my chosen medical specialty. With so many specialties and possible paths out there, I can’t imagine how I will pick just one, but the one thing I know for sure is this Forum cemented my dream to become a physician.

I am thankful that my trip was made possible through the support of my family and especially Fallbrook doctors. Thank you so much Dr. Winton, Dr. Taft, Dr. Flores and Dr. Choi for your generous support. I now know why you all became doctors.
