FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has published an international cookbook to celebrate its diverse and international membership. The book is a hard cover, comb-bound book with tabbed sections of appetizers, soups and salads, main dishes, deserts and specialty items from around the world. The recipes have been gathered from the branch’s members and their families and friends. The cookbook also contains a section of useful cooking tips and hints.
AAUW is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to promoting equity for women and girls, lifetime education for women and positive societal change in the area of women’s rights. The organization is active on a national, international, state basis and locally very involved here in Fallbrook.
The Fallbrook branch, which includes members in Bonsall, Rainbow, and De Luz, is celebrating its 65th birthday this year. The branch has 79 members and six student affiliates. This year the branch has sponsored public seminars in financial literacy and identity theft prevention; student activities in Tech Trek participation, Speech Trek competition, math/science awards, AVID high school mentoring, Start Smart mentoring for college women and in scholarship awards for college and continuing education. Several hundred girls in the local area have benefitted from these programs.
All of the net proceeds from the international cookbook will go to fund scholarships for local young women. The cookbooks are priced at $15 and can be ordered by calling the branch’s treasurer, Julie Norberg at (760) 728-8700.
