Lucore wins national pickleball tournament

FALLBROOK – Local North County players racked up 29 medals at the third annual USAPA National Pickleball Tournament, including Jennifer Lucore (FUHS 1984), who set a record of capturing three open medals and earning $1,125 in cash prizes along with silver plates and one big trophy

The tournament was held in Buckeye, Ariz. from Nov. 7 to 13. Over 450 competitors from all over the US and Canada participated during the week. Lucore won gold in Open Women’s Singles, teamed with Alex Hamner to win gold in Open Women’s Doubles, and with Chris Miller to win bronze in Open Mixed Doubles.

Other local winners of gold medals are Tony Negrete/Tim Nelson – Men’s Doubles 35+; Jennifer Zbinden/Wendy Garrido - Women’s Doubles 19+; Gail Penacho/Nancy Sass - Women’s Doubles 65+; Gail Penacho/Bob Youngren - Mixed Doubles 65+; Gail Penacho – Singles 65+; Bill Smith – Singles 70+; and Jeremy Gates/Jaimi Foster – Juniors Mixed Doubles.
