Second Bald Eagle Count Scheduled in Lakeside Areas

HEMET - U.S. Forest Service rangers are hoping a bald eagle count planned next week will match the success of a survey last month in which nine of the birds were spotted.

Rangers are seeking volunteers for the eagle watch scheduled for Jan. 14 around lakes throughout the Inland Empire.

The Forest Service's 34th winter census began on Dec. 17 and will wrap up after two additional counts in February and March. During the first outing, volunteers spotted five adult and four juvenile eagles, according to agency spokesman John Miller.
