Tate 5th at Carlsbad Invitational

Fallbrook High School junior Andrew Tate opened the 2011-12 high school wrestling season with a fifth-place performance at the Carlsbad Invitational tournament Dec. 3.

“He dropped a really tough overtime match that would have put him in the third-place match,” said Fallbrook coach Greg Wagaman. “He lost his concentration for just a moment, and it cost him the match.”

Tate wrestled in the 132-pound class. After his only loss in the tournament he settled for fifth place. “He got in the match for fifth and sixth and kind of took it out on that guy,” Wagaman said.

The Warriors only took eight wrestlers to the tournament, and since there are 14 weight classes Fallbrook placed behind most teams who were able to obtain points from more weight brackets.
