29-year-old transient arrested on multiple charges including burglary, vandalism, drug paraphernalia

A Fallbrook detective arrested a 29-year-old transient Jan. 7, on multiple burglary charges. Through evidence that was collected previously, the man is believed to be responsible for burglaries that occurred last summer at Ingold Sports Park and recent commercial burglaries in downtown Fallbrook.

“In August of 2011, Fallbrook Youth Baseball storage containers and the concession stand at the Ingold Sports Park were burglarized; through evidence obtained at the scene, Sheriff’s Detective Tom Vrabel was able to identify 29 year-old Christopher Sharpe as a suspect,” said Lt. Robert Haley, commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff’s substation.

On Wed. morning, Jan. 11, Detective Vrabel spotted Sharpe walking down a sidewalk and enlisted the aid of deputies to close in around him for the arrest.

Haley said Vrabel had previously arrested Sharpe in June of 2011 for burglary and grand theft and the man was on felony probation for that offense when the detective saw him this morning shortly after 9 a.m.

“Sharpe noticed Vrabel <at the same time> and ran down an alley where he attempted to hide a backpack he had been carrying,” said Haley. “Detective Vrabel contacted patrol deputies who quickly apprehended Sharpe after a short pursuit.”

Sharpe’s backpack, Haley said, contained evidence related to another commercial burglary that had occurred several hours earlier at Manor Cleaners, 125 E. Mission Rd., in Fallbrook.

Sharpe is a transient with no known address, though he has been known to frequent Oceanside and Fallbrook.

“Christopher Sharpe is also being investigated for other commercial burglaries in the Fallbrook area including several at local schools,” said Haley.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s website, at this time Sharpe is being charged with three counts of burglary, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools, vandalism, and violating probation. Bail has been set at $122,750.
