In response to two different acts of violence, Fallbrook Sheriff’s deputies are seeking a group of individuals that assaulted a local retail worker and a man has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Lt. Robert Haley, commander of the Fallbrook substation, some “young juveniles” purchased a candy bar inside a discount store located in the 1000 block of South Main Ave. at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 2.
“One had opened a candy he had purchased, but took a drink out of a juice container and just left it on the counter,” said Haley. “The assistant manager asked that they pay for both the candy and drink, but left the store only paying for the candy.”
After exiting the store, the individuals attacked an employee who had been helping another customer outside, stated Haley. Though they hit and kicked the victim, Haley said the victim does not want to prosecute the individuals.
“Detectives have followed up to see if the juveniles were on probation or parole, which could be revoked,” said Haley. “My detective is trying to see what he can do.”
In another incident, on Jan. 3 at approximately 10:45 p.m., 26-year-old Travis Coyer was sitting outside a drugstore located in the 1100 block of South Mission Rd. when his girlfriend’s father, 57-year-old Paul Morgan drove by in a sports utility vehicle, going to a sandwich shop in the same shopping center.
“When [Morgan] saw [Coyer], he got out of his vehicle, approached without warning and attempted to stab [Coyer] with a shank or shiv-like object,” said Haley.
Coyer was able to dodge the shiv, but was still injured to the point that the object caused a mark.
“Morgan grabbed the skateboard that Coyer had been sitting on, threw it into the back of his SUV, and then drove his vehicle onto the curb,” said Haley. “We got a call about a person down in the area, and when deputies arrived on scene, they found a white male adult with an obvious deformation of his leg between the knee and ankle.”
Deputies found Morgan at his residence, and arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon.
“He was obviously angry about something,” said Haley.
