Swirlz becomes Retro Candy & Toys under new owner

FALLBROOK - Fallbrook’s favorite candy and toy store, Swirlz Candy & Party Emporium, is now under new ownership and its name has been changed to Retro tm Candy & Toys. Former owners Richard and Maribel Moran sold the store to Skuuber LLC, owned by Rick and Sophia Hill.

The store, which originally opened in May 2008, was closed temporarily, Jan. 1 through 15 for some remodeling before being reopened under the new name on Jan. 16.

“This store has been responsible for creating smiles and feelings of nostalgia throughout Fallbrook by providing top quality candy, gifts and retro toys to the community,” said Rick Hill. “It has grown to become a Fallbrook favorite, an iconic retail landmark, and the launching point for expansion to another Escondido location.” The Morans, who opened a second, larger store in Escondido, will focus their efforts on that location now.

Rick and Sophia Hill have backgrounds in consumer marketing and retail.

“We are thrilled to carry on the tradition of a nostalgic candy and toy store on Fallbrook’s historic Main Avenue,” said Rick Hill. “Difficult and uncertain economic conditions create a real desire for folks to return to the days and ways of simpler, more fun times. Retro Candy & Toys will literally welcome back customers to the kinds of candies and toys many of them grew up with and want to share with newer generations.” The store will offer an expanded selection of iconic toys like Slinky, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, and many others. Game choices include Life, Parcheesi, and more. The shop also features Fallbrook Avocado Fudge and a complete line of nostalgic packaged and bulk candies along with classic soda brands in glass bottles.

“We welcome the opportunity to fill special requests for hard-to-find items from our past and to offer a fun and engaging shopping experience,” said the Hills. “Retro toys and games are making a real comeback and Fallbrook is the perfect place to bring it alive. It is an easy place to fall in love with and we look forward to becoming part of the Fallbrook business community and making Fallbrook’s rich history and unique identity become additionally vibrant.”

Retro tm Candy & Toys is located in the historic Jameson building at 213 N. Main Ave., Fallbrook.
