I would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health, for sponsoring the Household Hazardous Waste event in Fallbrook on January 7. What a huge success!
Preliminary numbers indicate that 711 vehicles participated and dropped off 37,450 pounds of chemicals and wastes (batteries, motor oil, pool chemicals, pesticides, etc.), 18,040 pounds of electronic waste, 9,600 gallons of latex paint, 1,500 linear feet of fluorescent light tubes, and 300 compact fluorescent bulbs. And through the partnership of the Department of Environmental Health with the Sheriff’s Department, 58 pounds of unwanted prescription medications were collected as well.
Equally impressive was the new location they used this year. According to Melissa Porter, coordinator of the event for the County, “The Ingold Sports Park proved to be a fabulous site for the event. Extra thanks to the sports park and the Sheriff’s RSVP officers. We could not have done this event without them.”
All the residents I spoke with who attended the event were full of praise for the efficiency of the staff and the ease of dropping off materials. They were equally effusive about the courtesy and helpfulness of all the staff.
The community of Fallbrook is very fortunate to have such great service from the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health. Many, many thanks.
