INDIO - Two Indio polo clubs and nearby ranches were under quarantine today after a horse at one club was found to have the equine herpes virus.
The polo horse, a gelding at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, showed symptoms of the disease over the weekend and was euthanized Monday, veterinarian Mike Manno wrote in a statement posted on polo website polozone.com late Wednesday. The horse tested positive for the virus, known as EHV-1, at a University of California, Davis lab, Manno wrote.
