The all-tournament team for the Nike Southern California Classic girls soccer tournament which was played Dec. 27 to 30 in Oceanside included four Fallbrook High School players.
Left midfielder Sarah Foster, center midfielder Kylie King, right midfielder Peyton Brittain, and center defender Madison Ashbrook were the four Warriors who earned all-tournament honors.
“All four of those players were impact players and helped the team get the success that they had,” said Fallbrook coach Kevin Koptieff.
Fallbrook reached the finals of the tournament before losing to Oceanside High School, who also handed the Warriors their only other loss of the tournament in which Fallbrook won three games.
Foster scored four goals during the tournament although she sprained her ankle during Fallbrook’s 2-0 win over Montgomery and missed the finals. “Once she bounces back from her injury I think she will lead the team this season in goals,” Koptieff said.
Brittain scored two goals in the Nike Southern California Classic. “She’s a very aggressive player. She’s got a lot of heart and leaves it all on the field,” Koptieff said of Brittain.
Foster and Brittain are both freshmen. “My freshman players were key,” Koptieff said.
Including Savannah McInerny, who did not make the all-tournament team, freshmen scored eight of Fallbrook’s ten goals. King, a junior, had one of the other goals, and Koptieff notes that her contributions went beyond placing that ball into the net. “Kylie King was instrumental in the distribution out to the players,” he said.
Ashbrook is a sophomore. “Madison Ashbrook, she saved us a lot in the back,” Koptieff said.
