RANCHO MIRAGE - The former Rancho Mirage home of President Gerald Ford and Betty Ford has come on the market for $1.69 million, with its guesthouse being sold separately for $509,000, it was reported today.
The 6,316-square-foot mid-century home, built in 1979 on 1.37 acres, was designed by architect Welton Becket, known for the Capitol Records Building in Hollywood, Pomona City Hall and Glendale City Hall, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Set in the Thunderbird Country Club, the main house includes a staff waiting room, five bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms. The Fords' furnishings, excluding family portraits, are also available for purchase, The Times reported. The guesthouse, described as a ''Secret Service guard shack," is being sold separately for $509,000. The ex-president died in 2006 at 93. Betty Ford died last year, also at 93. Nelda Linsk of HK Lane Real Estate and Lindell Campbell of Warwick Properties Group are the listing agents.
