Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider loses leg in SR 76 head-on collision; Navy corpsman on scene to assist

PAUMA VALLEY - A Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider who lost a leg in a collision on state Route 76 near Rincon was hospitalized today.

The accident east of Valley Center Road was reported about 12:25 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol, which said the westbound motorcycle veered onto the wrong side of the road and into the path of a 1999 Dodge Durango that was pulling a trailer.

The motorcycle rider, a 42-year-old man whose name was withheld, struck the front of the trailer, breaking off a trailer wheel. He was airlifted to Palomar Hospital, where he was being treated.
