MORENO VALLEY - A man driving a stolen car suffered fatal injuries in a high-speed crash in the Moreno Valley area, authorities said today.
Jose Aguilera, 25, of Moreno Valley died about 12:20 a.m. at the scene of the crash, which occurred about an hour earlier at Woodson Road and Reche Canyon Road, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.
Aguilera was driving a stolen 1993 Honda Accord west on Reche Canyon at a ''high rate of speed,'' California Highway Patrol Officer Sylvia Vargas said. As he passed Woodson, he lost control of the car, which veered off the road and rolled multiple times. The car then struck a mailbox and overturned, ejecting Aguilera, who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the coroner and CHP.
The car was stolen out of Moreno Valley, Vargas said.
