Ailsa Aiton Benjamin

Ailsa Aiton Benjamin passed away in her sleep March 19, 2012. Born August 31, 1927 in Santa Monica, Ailsa was raised in Hollywood and was a graduate of Hollywood High School.

After attending Los Angeles City College, Ailsa married Robert Benjamin in 1949. They lived in the Los Angeles area until 1962, when they moved to Fallbrook. Ailsa devoted many years to the Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary, the Fallbrook Historical Society, and the American Field Service (AFS). She served on the board of what was then known as the Fallbrook Community Concert Association, and was a member of P.E.O. and the Angel Society of Fallbrook.

Beginning in 1969, Ailsa became the Village Life Editor of the Fallbrook Enterprise. She wrote the “Happiness Is…” column for 17 years, emphasizing the community service aspect of village life.

Upon retiring from the Enterprise in 1987, Ailsa became more involved with the Angel Society, serving as its president. Tennis was a large part of her life and she spent many hours playing at the Fallbrook Tennis Club. Later in life, she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends.

Her daughter, Marjorie Benjamin South and her sister Jean A. Anderson have preceded Ailsa in death. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; sons John and David; granddaughters Cairen, Amy, and Kate and grandsons Christopher, Timothy, Ian and Carson.

A memorial service will be held April 4, 2012, 2 p.m. at the Fallbrook Presbyterian Church, 463 S. Stage Coach Lane, Fallbrook, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Angel Society of Fallbrook, theangelsociety.org.
