Fallbrook High School junior Andrew Tate competed in the CIF San Diego Section’s all-division masters tournament February 24-25 at Otay Ranch High School and won three of his five matches.
Tate lost his first match of the double-elimination tournament and needed to win his next six in order to advance to the state meet.
“He still made some big strides on that day,” said Fallbrook head coach Greg Wagaman.
Tate competed in the 128-pound bracket and began the tournament by losing a 2-1 decision to Jeremiah Deinla of Olympian High School.
