Water Supply Change Means Consumers Can Expect Different Taste in San Jacinto

PERRIS - San Jacinto Valley residents were advised today not to be alarmed if they notice a change in the way their water tastes and smells.

According to the Eastern Municipal Water District, the agency will be using chloramines instead of chlorine to disinfect new supplies from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

So-called ''chloramination'' can result in a longer-lasting aftertaste and a slight change in odor compared to chlorine. The difference is noticeable until consumers acclimate to it, and there is no reason for concern, according to the EMWD.
