ESCONDIDO (Wire Service) - A fire scorched about two acres of brush west of the Lawrence Welk Resort today which prompted a closure of two southbound lanes on Interstate 15, according to Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.
The fire was reported about 4 p.m. on the west side of Interstate 15 about two miles south of Gopher Canyon Road, said Battalion Chief Nick Schuler of Cal Fire.
Firefighters contained the blaze to about 2 acres and no structures were threatened and no injuries were reported, Schuler said.
The California Highway Patrol reported the two right hand lanes on the southbound side of the freeway were closed, but one had since been reopened.
Schuler said the remaining southbound lane would likely remain closed until about 6 p.m.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Schuler said.
