FALLBROOK - Relay for Life is seeking cancer survivors and caregivers to recognize during this year’s Relay for Life cancer awareness event.
“Fallbrook cancer survivors deserve recognition for fighting their own personal battles in this war against cancer,” said Relay for Life volunteer Stacey Verboom.
On Friday, April 27, at 6 p.m., the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life of Fallbrook will be celebrating survivors and caregivers at a Survivor Social to be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1620 S. Stage Coach Lane. Survivors will participate in bingo and Bunco games while enjoying refreshments.
“The gathering recognizes the needs of survivors and caregivers to socialize in a friendly atmosphere with other people who have dealt with this disease, to share stories, get new ideas, have some fun, and learn more about the Fallbrook Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society,” said Verboom. “Relay for Life is a moving celebration of cancer survivorship and is an opportunity to promote a message of hope that affirms people do survive cancer. For the newly diagnosed, Relay offers a chance to meet someone who has survived the same type of cancer. For the cancer patient in treatment, Relay provides an opportunity to share with others. For the long-term survivor, Relay encourages recognition of their struggle.”
“Caregivers also find hope in Relay for Life,” added Verboom. “These individuals give their time, love and support to friends, family and neighbors who face cancer. At Relay, everyone understands the challenges and joys of being a caregiver. There is peace of mind knowing that together we can face the challenges ahead.”
This year’s Fallbrook Relay for Life event will be held at Potter Jr. High School on June 9 and 10. It is not necessary for everyone who would like to attend the social to also attend the Relay for Life event in June.
“However, all are welcome to participate in the Survivor’ Lap and the Luminaria Ceremony on June 9,” said Verboom. “An RSVP is helpful in planning for the event, but not required.”
