FALLBROOK - The Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society will hold its next monthly meeting on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7 p.m. at 123 W. Alvarado Street, Fallbrook.
Guest speaker Dona Dirlam will give a presentation entitled "Tablet to Tablet: Treasured Pages From Past to Present." It showcases the GIA library's extraordinary collection of rare books about gems, minerals and natural science. Most of the books have never before been on display.
The oldest book exhibited is Pliny's "Natural History" from 1496, the content dates back to 77 CE. Pliny died during the first recorded eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.
