Changes to Village News political copy policies

Effective with the May 3, 2012 issue, the Fallbrook/Bonsall Village News, in an effort to be fair to all politically-based parties, clubs, and candidate support groups, announces the following policies:

Editorial copy

(The following types of press releases, announcements, etc., may be submitted to be run at no charge on a space available basis.)

• Meetings at which a special guest (non-candidate) is to speak on a specific topic.

• Special Events like socials and charitable cause fundraisers, etc. (except those being held as a forum or benefit for specific candidates).

• Letters to the Editor (will continue to be accepted on a space available basis, except during the election black-out periods when it is too close to the election for people to respond to previous letters).

• Announcements relating to candidate forums will only be considered as editorial copy if multiple candidates of opposing viewpoints are involved in the event.

Advertising

(What items must be taken out as a paid advertisement by a club, party, or individual)

• Regular club or candidate supporter meetings (same as other clubs and nonprofits - not eligible to be submitted as a press release).

• Specific candidate meetings, fundraisers, “meet and greets.”

• Generic notices outlining specific candidate information, endorsements of candidates, measures, political meetings, viewpoints, etc.

• Flyers and other graphically designed notices must be submitted in the form of paid advertising.

The Village News has always endeavored to offer people of all political views and opinions an opportunity to share information with the community. Please direct any specific questions to our editorial department at [email protected].
