We are fortunate to have a forward-looking fire department right here in town. Some years ago, the North County Fire Protection District (NCFPD) invented a backup radio system to carry emergency communications if and when the County’s 800 MHz trunking system failed. And fail it did during the countywide power outage on September 8, 2011. NCFPD’s backup radio system worked flawlessly during that incident and carried a heavy load. And that wasn’t the first time the county’s 800 MHz RCS system had developed debilitating problems.
