Three people rescued after boating accident in Oceanside Harbor

OCEANSIDE - Three people were rescued after a boating accident today in the Oceanside Harbor, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

A large wave capsized a family's boat as they entered the harbor on their way back from a fishing trip about 2:15 p.m., which threw the three occupants into the water, according to Battalion Chief Bill Kogerman.

A boat's owner and his son were thrown free of the 17-foot center console but the owner's wife became stuck in an air pocket under the overturned vessel and the owner could see her each time a swell lifted the boat, Kogerman said.

The owner and his son eventually rescued the woman and all three were later brought to safety by Oceanside lifeguards, two who ran out onto a north jetty and jumped into the harbor and others who responded in a Harbor Police vessel, Kogerman said.

The victim was brought to the harbor dock and one person was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Kogerman said.

Harbor police towed the vessel to a launch ramp where it was placed on a trailer, Kogerman said.
