Trial Postponed for Man Accused in 1980 Murder

MURRIETA - With the defense seeking more time to prepare, trial was postponed today for a man accused of sexually assaulting and killing a 67- year-old neighbor in Hemet more than three decades ago.

Shelby Glenn Shamblin, 49, faces life in prison if convicted of first- degree murder for the Jan. 17, 1980, beating and strangulation of Elizabeth Crossman.

Shamblin appeared alongside Deputy Public Defender Thomas Steelman today before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Elaine Johnson, who agreed to postpone the trial to June 5 after Steelman said he needed more time to scrutinize the governmen...
