Lake Matthews blaze out today, 256 acres burned

RIVERSIDE - A 256-acre blaze in the Lake Mathews area was out today, a county fire official said.

The brush fire at Tin Mine Road and La Sierra Avenue was reported at 3:38 p.m. Thursday and surrounded Sunday night, according to Riverside County fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

One fire crew and one water tender spent Monday patrolling for hot spots and improving containment lines before the fire was pronounced under control, Hagemann said.

The fire grew from about two acres with winds out of the west at 12 mph and gusts up to 21 mph, she said.
