Guilty Plea From Marine Who Opened Fire Outside South Bay Bar After Being Asked to Leave

CHULA VISTA - A Camp Pendleton Marine who opened fire outside a Nestor bar after being asked to leave pleaded guilty today to discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

Sy Mitchell Schultheis, 23, will be sentenced July 17 at the courthouse in Chula Vista.

Co-defendant Effie Salmans pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact and was immediately sentenced to three years probation and given credit for 13 days in custody after his conviction was reduced to a misdemeanor.

Police said Schultheis was ''very intoxicated'' when asked to leave the South Bay Lounge at 1671 Palm Ave....
