Man found dead in Joshua Tree thought to be missing British Columbia hiker

JOSHUA TREE - Law enforcement and search and rescue workers looking for a missing hiker found a 41-year-old British Columbia resident dead in Joshua Tree National Park, a park spokesman said today.

A hiker thought to be staying at the Indian Cove campground was reported missing Wednesday morning, park spokesman Joe Zarki said.

''Park rangers, search and rescue personnel and a CHP helicopter searched the area for the hiker. Shortly after 9 p.m., search and rescue members located a deceased hiker in the area,'' sheriff's Sgt. Steve DaSilva said.
