Girls rugby wins another national title - Fallbrook's Richelle Stephens named MVP of tourney

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook High School’s Girls Sevens team won the Inaugural USA Sevens Girls High School Rugby Challenge in Philadelphia, Penn. on June 3. Richelle Stephens was named MVP of the tournament and was invited, along with Casey Karl to participate in national sevens identification camp June 9 and 10 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.

Sevens rugby has been accepted into the Olympics and the USA will have teams in the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Coach Marin Pinnell said, “Maybe we’ll be seeing our Fallbrook girls in the Olympics!”

Other honors this season include Megan Pinson being chosen as the MVP of the USA Rugby High School National Invitational Tournament at Stanford.

The following girls have been selected to participate in the SoCal Griffins All-Star U17 and U19 teams that will travel to Oregon at the end of June: Alexi Eich, Brittney Eldridge, Emma Workman, Irayda “Karmin” Macedo, Kayla Canett, Megan Pinson, Michel Navarro, Richelle Stephens, Sarah Workman, and Taylor Duncan.

The following girls were selected to participate in the USA U20 Women’s 15’s Camp in Colorado from June 11 to 16: Megan Pinson, Casey Karl, and Johni Durbin.

Other members of the team included Alex Beckett, Kasey Clarke, Karina Guadalupe, and Katherine Wilches.
