Learn composting for free at Fallbrook EDCO facility

FALLBROOK – A free composting workshop will be offered at the EDCO Recycling and Transfer Station, 550 W. Aviation Rd., in Fallbrook on Sat., June 30, from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshop is being sponsored by the Solana Center and master composting instructors will teach about backyard composting and vermicomposting (composting with worms).

Composting is the controlled decomposition of organic material such as leaves, grass, fruit and vegetables. Composting not only diverts waste from the landfill, but also returns valuable nutrients to the soil. Amending soil with compost can conserve water, reduce the need for fertilizer, and increase plant vigor and pest resistance. Workshop participants will learn how to start successfully composting at home.

Participants are asked to register online at http://www.solanacenter.org/event/composting-workshop-edco-fallbrook or by calling the Solana Center at (760) 436-7986 Ext. 222. The Solana Center for Environmental Innovation is a nonprofit organization serving San Diego County.
