Work will continue nightly on Interstate 10 between Beaumont and Palm Springs through July 15

BANNING (Wire Service) - Alternating lanes and ramps on a stretch of Interstate 10 between Beaumont and Palm Springs will be closed nightly for pavement work through July 15.

The work, which was scheduled to start last night, will close alternating lanes and ramps in both directions between Pennsylvania Avenue and Highway 111 nightly, according to Caltrans.

The closure schedule is as follows:

*7 p.m. to 6 the following morning: alternating lanes 1 through 4 on eastbound I-10 between Pennsylvania and Hargrave Street;

*8 p.m. to 7 the next morning: alternating lanes 1 through 4 on westbound I-10 between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania;

*8 p.m. to 7 the next morning: alternating onramp and offramp closures on westbound I-10 between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania.

In February, a paving miscue by Caltrans resulted in a huge Sunday traffic jam on westbound I-10 between Palm Springs and Banning. The agency apologized and vowed it would not happen again.

Caltrans posts updates at www.dot.ca.gov and shows roadwork and accident information in real time.
