'Dark Night' shooting suspect called 'very, very smart' and 'a little weird'

RIVERSIDE - A UC Riverside classmate of the Aurora, Colo., massacre suspect recalled him as very smart and a little weird, but said she never imagined he was capable of going on a killing rampage.

''He was a very nice guy,'' Jessica Cade, a fellow honors student, told the Los Angeles Times, referring to James Eagan Holmes, 24, who was in police custody in the Denver suburb this morning, as explosives experts sought to neutralize his booby-trapped apartment.

Cade, 23, said Holmes was ''very, very smart; a little weird like you'd expect a really smart guy to be.''
