FALLBROOK – Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green, a division of the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, has scheduled their annual community-wide Clean Up/Recycling Day for Saturday, Sept. 15, in conjunction with the countywide/statewide clean up held by I Love a Clean San Diego, and the California Coastal Commission. Residents will have an opportunity to participate in a number of recycling events.
Clean up events include the recycling of e-waste, the collection of old computer hard-drives (will be destroyed offsite before recycling), the shredding of old paperwork, the disposal of used household batteries and the disposal of car and industrial batteries. No tires, household hazardous waste (paints, chemicals), nor fluorescent bulbs, will be accepted.
All these activities, except for the car/industrial battery event, will take place in the large dirt lot at the northeast corner of Pepper Tree Lane and South Mission between 9 a.m. and noon. The car/industrial battery event will take place during the same hours at BP Batteries at 805 E. Mission Road.
The free e-waste disposal is being handled by E-World Recyclers, a Vista company with a long history of successful e-waste processing, both in drop-off services and community collection events (760-599-0888). This company’s commitment to ensuring that nothing they process ever ends up in a landfill made them a natural choice for Fallbrook’s Recycling Day. All electronic equipment is eligible for disposal at this event.
Residents may also take advantage of the free paper shredding event sponsored by Shred-It of Vista (760-598-5700). Shred-It will also collect of old hard drives and offer free destruction (offsite) of all information on any hard drive brought in to the e-waste recycling location. Residents need to remove the hard drive from their computer and bring both items separately to this event.
Cell phone recycling, Cell Phones for Soldiers, is being organized by the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1924. Every cell phone that is recycled generates an hour of talk time for a soldier abroad.
A car/truck/industrial battery collection feature, sponsored by Dave Gleason of BP (Battery Pros) Batteries (760-723-1773), is also a part of the recycle day. Residents can recycle industrial batteries, automobile batteries, heavy equipment batteries or solar batteries at BP Batteries, 805 E. Mission Road, from 9 a.m. to noon.
All the recycling events are free to North County residents, but limited to individuals. Businesses should contact the participating recyclers directly to schedule an appointment.
Fallbrook’s cleanup activities include both a community “sweep” for large items illegally dumped along streets and roadways as well as litter pickup on neighborhood streets. All interested volunteers are welcome.
Volunteers should register in advance at: cleanupday.org/cleanupsites.htm?ID=B&ID2=72 and meet on the day of the event at the dirt lot at the northeast corner of Pepper Tree Lane and South Mission at 9 a.m. Note: Every volunteer needs to sign a waiver; anyone under the age of 18 needs a parent or guardian signature to participate.
