Murder Victim's Remains Found in Trunk of Abandoned Car

LAKE MATHEWS - An investigation was under way today into the death of a man whose remains were found in the trunk of a car near Lake Mathews.

The body of the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was located around 5 p.m. Monday by Riverside County sheriff's deputies on Gavilan Springs Ranch Road, near Lake Mathews Drive.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Todd Torrenti, deputies were called to the remote location -- about 16 miles south of Riverside -- to investigate a suspicious vehicle.
