Regional alert issued regarding escaped felon who is considered armed and dangerous

The California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies have issued an alert for all Southern California residents to be on the lookout for an escaped felon who is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Felony suspect Darnell Washington escaped from a county jail in San Bernardino County with the aid of his wife, Tania, on August 28.

Washington is now wanted in connecting with the shooting of a 39-year-old L.A. County Sheriff's deputy in El Monte on Sunday morning, September 2. The officers injuries were not life-threatening and he was treated and released the same day at an area hospital. The officer is an 11-year veteran of the force.

After the shooting, law enforcement officers say Darnell Washington and Tania Washington committed multiple carjackings. The last car they were seen in was a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager mini-van, light blue in color, California license #3PHK484

Darnell Washington is described as a black male, 24-years-old, 6' 2", 197 lbs.

Tania Washington is described as a black female, 25-years-old, 5' 3", 130 lbs.

The suspects were last seen in South Gate on Sunday, September 2, at approximately 9 a.m.

Law enforcement agencies say both suspects remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone that sees the suspects or the vehicle described above should call 911.
