Civilian dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound at Camp Pendleton Memorial Golf Course

CAMP PENDLETON - A civilian died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound today at Memorial Golf Course on the grounds of Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps reported.

Military medics pronounced the man dead at the scene of the shooting shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from the northern San Diego County USMC installation. His name was withheld pending family notification.

It was not immediately clear what might have led to the gunfire.

The golf course, which is open to the public as well as active-duty personnel, was closed pending further notice, Marine Corps Capt. Barry Edwards said.

The death was being investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the captain said.

Individual found with self-inflicted gunshot wound on Camp Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON - Camp Pendleton law enforcement and emergency medical services personnel responded to an incident at the Marine Memorial Golf Course at approximately 9:30 a.m. today, Sept. 11, where an individual later sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The individual was pronounced deceased at 10:35 a.m. by Base emergency medical personnel.

The scene has been secured and the incident is currently under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Services.

The golf course and its facilities are closed until further notice.
